High Guard 2

January 2026

HDR “analysis” Highguard on PC and PS5 (Pro).

It does not support HDR on PC or PS5.

PS5:
Here you have two options. To set PS5 to output SDR or to “force” PS5 to always output HDR.

In my HDR Always On article I explain the difference between those two options.

Picture 3 shows that PS5 outputs the typical 253 nits with HDR always on.

Try out what you like the most.

PC:
The game uses anti-cheat software, so we should be limited to using only Auto HDR and RTX HDR.

I couldn’t get Auto HDR to work, but RTX HDR works just fine.

Picture 4 shows me using RTX HDR and 2000 nits.

Picture 2 is in-game on PC using RTX HDR. Looks decent to me.

RTX HDR is not native HDR. It's much better than SDR, but it just converts SDR to HDR, so it will have the same issues as SDR with clipping of brighter detail. It’s very noticeable when looking at the skybox/clouds/sun.

Releasing a game in 2026 without native HDR support is of course not okay. On PC we have some options, but console gamers unfortunately do not.
