Spider-Man 2
HDR analysis Spider-man 2 on PC and PS5 Pro.
Gamma mis-match on PC:
Insomniac for some reason broke the colors in an update, so colors on PC don't match creator's intent and those on PS5. There is a RenoDX mod that fixes this (and only this).
Black level raise:
There is a massive black level raise on both PC and PS5 at night time of 0.16 nits. That's a lot. The other times of day are fine. We can fix it on PC using Lilliums Black Floor fix. No fix on PS5.
Picture 2 shows the black level raise and in picture 3 I have fixed it. Below I show a picture from night time on ground level where I have fixed the black level raise and there is plenty of light and detail, so I don't understand why we need this raise?
Too low peak brightness on PC:
On PC the game can not output more than 1500 nits. On PS5 it can go much higher. We can easily fix this on PC using HDR Fix Adapt. I do that in picture 4, where you also can see the reshade tools I use.
Paper white:
The game automatically adjust paper white, or game brightness, as we make changes to max luminance. Very few games do this so that's great. When max luminance on PC can't go higher than 1500 nits then paper white also can't increase further than to around 276 nits on PC. But when we use HDR fix Adapt to increase max luminance, it also increases paper white, so it's also easily fixed on PC.
HDR Paper White (Ui):
In the in-game menu we have a setting called HDR Paper White. It only changes the brightness of the UI. It's totally misleading to call it paper white. Just call it UI brightness.
Color space:
It only outputs bt.709 like most games unfortunately.
After looking at HDR in this game I wonder if the developer is totally incompetent ???
HDR do look good, but why these errors and misleading settings, and an unnecessary black level raise at night ?

No black level raise at night
