Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

December 2025

HDR analysis Clair Obscur; Expedition 33 on PC and consoles (PS5, SS/SX).

The game does not support HDR on any platform. It doesn’t even support Auto HDR on SS/SX.

It's a shame because it's such a beautiful game with many highlights, colors and great art style.

On PC we can get native HDR into the game using the RenoDX HDR mod. Picture 2-4 are with RenoDX, and you can see my settings in picture 2 for a 2000 nits TV.

Contrast is set to 80 from 50 because the new area would look washed out without it.

In picture 1 it's SDR. Look at the difference to picture 2. The native HDR implementation with RenoDX gives us so much more detail in bright objects, like the clouds, so we can see through them. With SDR everything bright looks blown out with no detail and the image looks flat with low contrast compared to HDR.

Don’t use RTX HDR instead of RenoDX. RTX HDR is not a native HDR implementation, so it can’t give more detail than there already is in SDR.

What my pictures in SDR of course can’t show is the amazing detailed shadows and bright specular highlights we also get from a native HDR implementation using RenoDX.

It's such a shame that the developer didn’t want to support HDR, so console gamers could experience it with HDR too.
